Bulk Import: Valuations

Modified on Wed, 22 Apr at 12:33 PM

The Valuations import template lets you bulk-upload NAV per share and valuation dates for investors and assets in Delio. Use it to add new valuations or, with a renamed sheet, to overwrite existing records.

Before you start

For a valuation to be accepted on import, the asset it applies to must have its valuation method set to Manual in Delio. If this is not set correctly, the import will not apply the valuation to that asset.

Important: Before uploading, confirm that every asset included in your file has its valuation toggle set to Manual. You can check this by opening each asset in Delio and reviewing the valuation settings. Assets still set to automatic valuation will be silently skipped during import — no error will be shown.

Overview

The downloaded template contains a single sheet: Valuations. This sheet adds new valuations alongside any existing records.

If you need to overwrite existing valuations or record a total monetary value for non-unitised assets, you will need to set up the Valuations - Replace sheet yourself — see Setting up the Valuations - Replace sheet below.

Sheet nameBehaviour on uploadWhen to use
ValuationsAdds new valuations to existing recordsOngoing valuation updates where no record already exists for the same investor, asset, and date
Valuations - ReplaceOverwrites any existing valuations for the same investor, asset, and dateCorrecting previously imported valuations, or when you want a clean replacement. Also supports total monetary values for non-unitised assets
Which sheet should I use? If you are importing valuations that don't already exist in Delio, either sheet works. If you need to correct or replace records already in the system, you must use Valuations - Replace.

Sheet 1 — Valuations

Each row records a NAV per share for a specific investor, asset, and date. Complete one row per investor per valuation date.

ColumnRequiredDescription
Asset Applied toYesThe name of the asset the valuation applies to, exactly as it appears in Delio.
Investor Applied toYesThe unique investor reference as it appears in Delio.
Nav Per ShareYesThe net asset value per share (price per unit) for the investor at this valuation date.
Valuation DateYesThe date the valuation applies to.

Setting up the Valuations - Replace sheet

The downloaded template does not include a Valuations - Replace tab — you need to create it yourself. Delio identifies which import behaviour to apply based on the sheet tab name, so the name must be exact.

  1. Open the downloaded Valuations template in your spreadsheet application.
  2. Right-click the Valuations tab at the bottom of the file and select Move or Copy (or duplicate the sheet, depending on your application).
  3. Rename the new tab exactly as: Valuations - Replace
  4. Use this sheet to enter your data — the four required columns are the same as the Valuations sheet (see table above).
Critical — tab name must be exact: The tab must be named Valuations - Replace (with a space before and after the hyphen). Any variation in spelling, spacing, or capitalisation will prevent Delio from recognising the overwrite behaviour, and the import will be processed as a standard add instead.

Adding a Total Valuation column (Valuations - Replace only)

If you are working with non-unitised assets and want to record a single monetary value per investor per date — rather than a NAV per share figure — you can add an optional Total Valuation column to your Valuations - Replace sheet.

  1. In your Valuations - Replace sheet, add a new column to the right of Valuation Date (column E).
  2. Type the column header exactly as: Total Valuation
  3. Enter the monetary value for each applicable row. Rows where this column is left blank will continue to use the Nav Per Share value.
Important: The column header must be spelled exactly as Total Valuation — Delio will not recognise variations in spelling or capitalisation. This column is only supported on the Valuations - Replace sheet and will be ignored if added to the standard Valuations sheet.

Total ValuationValuations - Replace onlyNoA total monetary value per investor per asset per date. For non-unitised assets only. Header must be spelled exactly as shown, and the column must be added manually.

Uploading the template

  1. Open the downloaded template and complete either the Valuations sheet or your manually created Valuations - Replace sheet — do not fill in both.
  2. If using Valuations - Replace and you need to record total monetary values, add a column headed Total Valuation in column E before uploading.
  3. Save the file and navigate to the Data Import section in Delio.
  4. Select the Valuations template type and upload your completed file.
  5. Delio will detect the sheet tab name and apply the correct import behaviour automatically — standard add for Valuations, overwrite for Valuations - Replace.
  6. Review any validation errors returned and correct the highlighted rows before re-uploading.
Reminder: The sheet tab name controls which behaviour is applied. Do not rename the Valuations tab, and ensure any replace sheet is named exactly Valuations - Replace. Delio uses these names to determine how to process your file.
